The day of the sinking of the most famous passenger ship in the world is now the 100th anniversary. Everyone, young and old, knows the tragedy of the Titanic. The elegant steamer was to be used in the prestigious transatlantic liner service of the White Star Line. But already on its maiden voyage to New York, the Titanic collided with an iceberg at around 11:40 p.m. (shipboard time) on April 14, 1912. The ship struck the iceberg on the starboard side and sank after two hours and forty minutes in the icy waters of the Atlantic. Only 712 people survived the disaster.
